In the world of education, it never ceases to amaze how fast September passes! We have had many highlights during the past month to reflect on; from soccer teams to drama productions, to basketball, fun lunches and meet the teacher, it has been a great start to the year! We are even more excited for what the next month has to offer!

School Council

At the next School Council meeting we will be discussing several budget items for the school! The best way to have your voice heard is to come to School Council!

Athletic Updates

We welcome parents to attend and cheer on all of the students that play for all of the teams. We would like to remind spectators of our protocols for attending games at FEO to ensure a positive playing experience for all athletes, coaches and referees.

Student spectators wishing to watch their peers participate in athletics must be accompanied and actively supervised by their parent if students are attending another school to watch a peer play in a sporting/athletic event.

Parent/Spectator Expectations at FEO School Sporting/Athletic Events

As parents and spectators, it’s important to remember that your role is to be a model, not a critic. Your behavior sets the tone for the experience of the athletes, officials, and everyone involved. Here are a few guidelines to ensure a positive environment at our school sporting events:

  • Relieve pressure, don’t increase it. Our young athletes already face enough pressure from competition. Let them enjoy their experience without added stress.
  • Let the athletes have their moment. The athletic experience belongs to them. Cheer for their effort but allow them to grow through their own performance.
  • Respect the judgment of officials and coaches. Their decisions may not always align with your perspective, but it’s important to demonstrate respect for their role and maintain control.
  • Show sportsmanship in all outcomes. Win with humility and lose with dignity. Your attitude in both moments is just as important as the final score.

Please be aware that FEO reserves the right to remove any spectator who does not uphold these expectations at our events. An administrator will be present for all games to assist with supervision during the games. Let’s create an environment where our student-athletes can thrive!

Thank you so much for supporting our athletes, coaches and referees throughout the athletic season

Individualized Program Plans | IPP Update

For students on an IPP, homeroom teachers will be sending home IPPs home for families to review on October 11. Please connect with your Homeroom teacher for any revisions to the plan!

OurSCHOOL Survey

FEO will be participating in an online school perception survey for students called the OurSCHOOL Student Survey. This anonymous survey is completely voluntary for all CBE students.  Please find the details of the survey implementation below.

CBE’s Education Plan prioritizes student voice and well-being in our decision-making processes.  Responses from this survey are used at the system and school level to recognize and improve what is necessary for students to feel safe, welcome, and cared for when at school.

Grades 4-12 students provide feedback on:

  • sense of belonging
  • positive relationships
  • anxiety
  • feeling safe at school
  • life satisfaction
  • general health
  • orientation to well-being
  • goal-oriented
  • self-regulation
  • cultural awareness of others

Additionally, Grades 6-12 students provide feedback on:

  • depression
  • self-esteem
  • cultural awareness of self

Demographic questions are also asked on this survey for norming purposes. These are:

Grades 4-12 general

  • age, gender, Indigenous status, immigrant status, home language.

Grades 6-12 specific

  • grade repeater, reasons for changing schools, disability or medical conditions that limits participation in school activities or learning.

At F.E. Osborne School our OurSCHOOL Student Survey administration plan is as follows:

Who: Grade 6 to 9

When: October 7 - 19, 2024

Where: Humanities classes

If you have questions or would like to request more information about FEO’s upcoming implementation of the OurSCHOOL Student Survey, please contact Assistant Principal, Mr. Scott Willoughby.
