Hello FEO Eagle Families,

In the spirit of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, I express my thankfulness for the privilege of being Principal at FEO. We are a vibrant learning community that began this school year in a season of change. Our timetable re-alignment and move to “SMATH” (combined Math & Science) has already yielded positive outcomes within the building. Teachers are reporting more engaged students in a calmer learner environment.

The staff and I wish you and your families a wonderful, safe and restful Thanksgiving long- weekend. Please note that the school will be closed on October 14th to observe the holiday.

School Council Message

Thank you to everyone who came to our meeting on Tuesday; it was wonderful to have such a great turnout!

At the next School Council meeting we will be discussing how to spend the $124,000 raised from our casino volunteering that was in the spring. This money must be budgeted out for a two year period until our next casino opportunity. Please come participate in this very important conversation and have your voice heard. The next meeting is MONDAY NOVEMBER 4 at 6:30 PM (Meeting link for MS Teams will be sent to families the morning of the meeting). We really hope to see you there!

-Linda & Tawnie | Co-Chairs of the FEO School Council

School Development Plan | SDP

Alberta Education requires each school to create a plan to improve student learning. The School Development Plan (SDP) aligns individual school goals with the identified goals in CBE Education Plan | 2024 – 2027 ; Learning Excellence, Well-Being and Truth & Reconciliation, Diversity and Inclusion. At FEO, we are currently underway analyzing our data to form our SDP. I will be speaking directly to our SDP and consulting with families at the next School Council meeting on November 4th and I would encourage you to attend!

Eagle Athletics

Both of our Boys & Girls soccer teams are off to the playoffs next week! I congratulate them on a very successful season and best of luck in the playoffs!

Students/Parents as Spectators

As parents and spectators, it’s important to remember that your role is to be a model, not a critic. Your behavior sets the tone for the experience of the athletes, officials, and everyone involved. Here are a few guidelines to ensure a positive environment at our school sporting events:

  • Relieve pressure, don’t increase it. Our young athletes already face enough pressure from competition. Let them enjoy their experience without added stress.
  • Let the athletes have their moment. The athletic experience belongs to them. Cheer for their effort but allow them to grow through their own performance.
  • Respect the judgment of officials and coaches. Their decisions may not always align with your perspective, but it’s important to demonstrate respect for their role and maintain control.
  • Show sportsmanship in all outcomes. Win with humility and lose with dignity. Your attitude in both moments is just as important as the final score.

Please be aware that FEO reserves the right to remove any spectator who does not uphold these expectations at our events. An administrator will be present for all games to assist with supervision during the games. Let’s create an environment where our student-athletes can thrive!

Spectating at Another School

Student spectators wishing to watch their peers participate in athletics at opposing schools must be accompanied and actively supervised by their parent(s)/guardian(s). In the event that an FEO student does not have this supervision at an opposing school, they will be asked to leave by the school administration.

Thank you so much for supporting our athletes, coaches and referees throughout the athletic season

Remembrance Day

The FEO Remembrance Day assemblies will be held on Thursday, November 7 this year. We are currently looking for anyone in our parent community that is or was involved in the Armed Forces, or who has a connection to them, to be a guest speaker for our assembly. If you are, or know anyone who is interested in helping us to make this event a success, please email Mr. Willoughby.

Individualized Program Plans | IPP Update

For students on an IPP, homeroom teachers will be sending home IPPs home for families to review today (October 11th). Please take some time over the long weekend to review the IPP. Once signed, it needs to be returned to FEO as soon as possible. For any revision requests, please connect with your students homeroom teacher. Teacher contact information can be found HERE.

ourSCHOOL Survey

FEO will be participating in an online school perception survey for students called the OurSCHOOL Student Survey. This anonymous survey is completely voluntary for all CBE students.  Please find the details of the survey implementation below.

CBE’s Education Plan prioritizes student voice and well-being in our decision-making processes.  Responses from this survey are used at the system and school level to recognize and improve what is necessary for students to feel safe, welcome, and cared for when at school.

Grades 4-12 students provide feedback on:

  • sense of belonging
  • positive relationships
  • anxiety
  • feeling safe at school
  • life satisfaction
  • general health
  • orientation to well-being
  • goal-oriented
  • self-regulation
  • cultural awareness of others

Additionally, Grades 6-12 students provide feedback on:

  • depression
  • self-esteem
  • cultural awareness of self

Demographic questions are also asked on this survey for norming purposes. These are:

Grades 4-12 general

  • age, gender, Indigenous status, immigrant status, home language.

Grades 6-12 specific

  • grade repeater, reasons for changing schools, disability or medical conditions that limits participation in school activities or learning.

At F.E. Osborne School our OurSCHOOL Student Survey administration plan is as follows:

Who: Grade 6 to 9

When: October 7 - 19, 2024

Where: SMATH classes

If you have questions or would like to request more information about FEO’s upcoming implementation of the OurSCHOOL Student Survey, please contact Assistant Principal, Mr. Scott Willoughby.
