Hello FEO Eagle Families,

Week at a Glance Oct. 5 9

As part of the Calgary Board of Education's (CBE) System Student Accommodation Plan (SSAP) and our commitment to keeping families informed, I am notifying you of changes that help manage space for students in Calgary. These changes are intended to support strong, stable learning environments, keep peer groups together where possible, and help balance enrolment across schools.

Effective for the 2027-2028 school year, the following grade implementations will be implemented:

  • F.E. Osborne, the designated middle school for Marion Carson and Silver Springs will change from a Grade 7 to 9 configuration to a Grade 6 to 9 configuration for the Regular Program.
  • Silver Springs School will change from a kindergarten to Grade 6 configuration to a kindergarten to Grade 5 configuration.
  • Marion Carson School Regular Program will change from a kindergarten to Grade 6 configuration to a kindergarten to Grade 5 configuration.

While change is never easy and I recognize that there will be a variety of emotions that come with this announcement, I do want to relay the excitement from staff at FEO with these changes. Last year we saw FEO decrease in population to accommodate for the opening of Evanston Heights school and now we will see an increase for next year!

I am happy to see so many students riding their bikes and scooters to school! We have added an additional bike rack at the front of the school to support students in keeping their bikes/scooters secure. I would also like to highlight several important safety measures at the school to keep everyone safe:

  • Students are not permitted to ride their bike/scooter in the school parking lot.
  • Helmets should be worn at all times.

I have received many inquiries regarding the rules and regulations pertaining to e-bikes and e-scooters (e-mobility) as the City of Calgary will be increasing enforcement around the city in the coming weeks. At this time, the information that I received from the City of Calgary states the only permitted forms of electric micro-mobility in Calgary are:

  • Regulated e-bikes with pedals, which must follow all standard cycling rules, including pathway speed limits and mandatory helmet use.
    • Legal e-bikes must have functional pedals, a motor of 500W or less, and a maximum assisted speed of 32 km/h. Pedal-assist models are allowed on pathways, roadways, and bike lanes, but throttle-powered (power-on-demand) e-bikes are strictly banned on city roads and pathways.
  • Approved shared e-scooters operated by licensed companies, which are speed-controlled, registered, and insured under the City’s pilot program. Private E-scooters are allowed on City-pathways with a maximum of 20km/h, but not permitted on sidewalks and roadways.
  • Power-wheelchairs are accessibility devices that are allowed anywhere.

All other electric mobility devices are not legal for public use. That includes privately owned e-scooters on sidewalks and roadways and electric dirt bikes.

FUN LUNCH | Introductions!

Our school and the Fun Lunch Team are very excited to continue this year with the online program called Healthy Hunger!

This program has been running for the past few school years with great success. It is the only fundraiser for the school which runs throughout the year and the funds gathered are used for helping the school, students and parent council in many ways.

It also gives parents a break from making lunches by having food brought into the school.

If you are new to the school or to Fun Lunch you will have to sign-up your child at www.healthyhunger.ca.  If you have been a part of Fun Lunch before then login with your email and password.

To order lunches, add your student and select this year’s grade and homeroom teacher!

Every time a new lunch form is posted you will get a notification from the website and then reminders to order until the deadline. The first Fun Lunch is Oct 7. The order deadline is Oct 2 at midnight.

Thank you for all your support!

INFORM | School Photo Retakes

INFORM | Annual Volunteer Registrations

To ensure the security and safety of our staff and students, all volunteers in our schools need to be registered. This form must be completed annually. The information collected on this form will be held in strict confidence.

A volunteer is someone who assists schools and/or students either in curricular or extra-curricular activities including volunteer drivers and students volunteering outside their school.

You must be 13 years or older to register as a volunteer. CBE students are not required to apply to volunteer in their own school. Students wanting to volunteer in another school are required to apply to volunteer.
