Hello FEO Eagle Families,

Week Ahead Oct 26 30This past week, our Grade 7 musicians had the opportunity to attend instrumental clinics at Mount Royal University. It is always exciting to see the progress students make through these enriching learning experiences!

Halloween is also fast approaching, and FEO will continue the annual tradition of hosting the FEO Haunted House and a Pep Rally on Friday. A very big thank you to our leadership students, who have been hard at work preparing for these festivities!

Halloween is a fun and exciting time that students of all ages eagerly anticipate throughout the year. At F.E.O., we share in that excitement and look forward to celebrating together. As we do so, we remain committed to fostering a safe, caring, and inclusive environment for everyone.

Students who choose to wear costumes are reminded that costumes must not include weapons or masks and should not appropriate cultures, religions, or racial identities. All costumes should reflect respect for diversity and uphold our shared values of inclusion and kindness.

Our learning interventions are well underway. Our math team has been using MathUp screeners to identify student needs and provide targeted support. Literacy initiatives continue to be supported by our Humanities teachers as part of our School Development Plan (SDP) goal of improving reading comprehension. I look forward to sharing these results with both families and School Council in the coming months.

Both of our basketball teams are in action this week at Senator Patrick Burns School. As a reminder, FEO students may only attend away games if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Go Eagles!

I wish you all a wonderful week ahead. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Warm regards,
Dr. Michael Cutler

REMINDER | Off-Campus Food & Beverage

We would like to provide a quick reminder about food and drinks purchased off-campus at lunch. These should generally be consumed during the lunch break before returning to school. In particular, we do not allow slurpees, milkshakes, frappuccinos, etc. into the school due to issues with spills and with unfinished drinks left in lockers. Also, students are not allowed to consume energy drinks at school at any time, due to the negative impact on learning of very large volumes of sugar and caffeine. These policies are aligned with current research and with the CBE's commitment to provide students with the skills, opportunities and encouragement they need to adopt healthy eating patterns. Thank you for your support in both of these areas.

FEO Career Fair

On November 4, Grade 9 students will have the opportunity to participate in Take Our Kids to Work Day, an annual event that allows students to explore the world of work by accompanying a parent, guardian, family member, or family friend to their workplace. The experience provides valuable insight into different careers, workplace expectations, and the skills required in a variety of professions.

We recognize that not all students will be participating in a workplace visit on that day. For students who will be attending school, we would like to offer a Career Fair and Career Exploration Day featuring presentations from community members representing a variety of occupations and industries.

To help us determine whether this is feasible, we are looking to gauge interest from parents, guardians, and family members who may be willing to spend some time with our students on November 4 and share information about their career journey. Presenters could discuss topics such as:

  • What they do in their role
  • Their educational and career pathway
  • Skills that are important in their field
  • A typical day at work
  • Advice for students considering future careers

We are particularly interested in showcasing a diverse range of careers and experiences so that students can learn about the many pathways available to them.

If you, or a family member, would be interested in participating as a Career Fair presenter, please complete the following form: F.E.O Career Exploration Fair.

Your involvement would help make this a meaningful and engaging experience for our students as they begin to think about their future goals and opportunities.
