Happy Thanksgiving FEO Eagle Families,

Week at a Glance Oct. 12 16

This past Wednesday evening, our FEO School Council met both virtually and in-person at the school. We also welcomed many visitors including families from Marion Carson School and Silver Springs School. As we continue to navigate the announced System Student Accommodation Plans (SSAP) changes (see below), I want to highlight several of the exciting aspects for current and incoming students who join existing grade 6 continuing French Immersion classes:

  • Developmental Responsiveness: FEO is specifically designed to cater to the unique physical, cognitive, and social-emotional needs of young adolescents, recognizing this period as a critical time of rapid change.
  • Empowering and Active Learning: FEO emphasizes active, purposeful, and democratic learning environments where students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own education and engage in real-world problem solving (including Grade 6 Outdoor school!).
  • Equitable and Inclusive Communities: FEO places a strong focus on equity, ensuring that all students have access to socially just learning opportunities and that their diverse identities are respected and affirmed.

Through robust fine arts courses including instrumental music (band), choir, digital composition (general music), design studies, construction, and art, we are able to offer comprehensive learning that extends beyond traditional grade 6 music and art instruction.

I will be a guest at the November School Council meetings for Marion Carson and Silver Springs schools. I would also encourage you to attend our upcoming November 4th FEO School Council meeting to hear more about the exciting opportunities at FEO!

I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving long weekend, and please remember the school is closed on Monday!

SSAP | System Student Accommodation Plan

As part of the Calgary Board of Education's (CBE) System Student Accommodation Plan (SSAP) and our commitment to keeping families informed, I am notifying you of changes that help manage space for students in Calgary. These changes are intended to support strong, stable learning environments, keep peer groups together where possible, and help balance enrolment across schools.

Effective for the 2027-2028 school year, the following grade implementations will be implemented:

  • F.E. Osborne, the designated middle school for Marion Carson and Silver Springs will change from a Grade 7 to 9 configuration to a Grade 6 to 9 configuration for the Regular Program.
  • Silver Springs School will change from a kindergarten to Grade 6 configuration to a kindergarten to Grade 5 configuration.
  • Marion Carson School Regular Program will change from a kindergarten to Grade 6 configuration to a kindergarten to Grade 5 configuration.

INFORM | School Photo Retakes

INFORM | Annual Volunteer Registrations

To ensure the security and safety of our staff and students, all volunteers in our schools need to be registered. This form must be completed annually. The information collected on this form will be held in strict confidence.

A volunteer is someone who assists schools and/or students either in curricular or extra-curricular activities including volunteer drivers and students volunteering outside their school.

You must be 13 years or older to register as a volunteer. CBE students are not required to apply to volunteer in their own school. Students wanting to volunteer in another school are required to apply to volunteer.
