Hello FEO Eagle Families,
We’re off to a fantastic start! Thank you to all our students and families for helping make the first day of school such a success. It’s amazing how quickly the energy returns—schools truly come alive when our Eagles are back in the building!
This morning began with our Grade 6/7 students gathering in the gym to be sorted into their homerooms, while our Grade 8/9 students headed straight into Eagle Time. After Eagle Time, students followed a shortened schedule to meet their teachers and get familiar with their classrooms. Tomorrow will follow a similar format, with assemblies for both Grade 6/7 and Grade 8/9 during Eagle Time.
During today’s Eagle Time, students received locker assignments, participated in activities, and reviewed the CBE Code of Conduct with their homeroom teachers. If you’d like to take a look at the Code of Conduct, you can find it HERE.
We also experienced an unexpected smoky morning, which led to an air quality alert across the city. Many of our students typically leave campus for lunch, but on days with poor air quality or severe weather, we may need to keep students indoors. As we settle into our school routines, we kindly ask families to consider sending lunch with students on days when outdoor conditions may be unsafe.
We’re so excited for the year ahead and grateful for such a positive beginning. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the FEO office or admin team—we’re here to help!
Warm regards,
Dr. Michael Cutler

Update | AIR QUALITY ALERTS
During smoky conditions, the CBE uses the Environment Canada air quality health index (AQHI) to determine when to reconsider outdoor activities and implement other measures to support the health and safety of students and staff. The provincial government also reports the AQHI by community.
In accordance with the CBE Outdoor Activities Guidelines, if the AQHI remains at 7 or above, schools are asked to consider postponing or cancelling outside activities during lunch and recess or limit the level of exertion if outside activities proceed. At that level Alberta Health Services recommends reducing the levels of outdoor physical activity to decrease the inhalation of airborne pollutants as individuals may experience temporary irritation of eyes and throat and possibly shortness of breath.
Update | ATHLETICS
Please ensure that your child comes prepared with appropriate athletic attire, water, and a signed copy of the Annual Authorization for Athletic Tryout (you can check off all the sports you would want for your child to try out for the whole year- this way you will avoid signing multiple forms for multiple sports)
We encourage all interested students to participate, regardless of their experience level. It’s a great way for them to challenge themselves and be part of our school spirit!
- Of note: effective Sept 1, the Alberta Fairness and Safety in Sport Act comes into effect. All female athletes wishing to compete/tryout for female sports teams are required to also return the following form alongside the annual authorization form above. Here are some more links from the Government of Alberta on this new legislation.
eScooters | Safe Storage
We’re thrilled to see so many of our students commuting to school on bicycles and scooters—including electric ones! It’s a great way to stay active and environmentally conscious.
However, we’d like to remind families that we do not have indoor storage space available for bikes or scooters. Students will need to use the designated bike racks located outside the school. To help keep their belongings safe, please ensure that all bikes and scooters are secured with a sturdy lock.
Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us keep our school safe and organized!
