Hello FEO Eagle Families,

As we prepare for Truth and Reconciliation week (Sept. 23-27), I would like to highlight that each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

September 30th | National Day for Truth & Reconciliation

The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

Both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30.

Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”.  The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations.

Please note that the school will be closed on September 30th to honour this day.

"Meet the Teacher" at FEO | September 26th 6:00 - 7:30

We are incredibly excited to welcome families to the school to meet the teaching staff and visit classrooms! The evening will begin at 6:00 PM in the gym with a welcome message from the Admin Team. Families will then have the opportunity to visit classrooms and participate in presentations from subject teachers. We look forward to seeing you soon!

FEO Athletics

This past week, both of our soccer teams had strong performances on the pitch with the boys team winning 5-0 over H.D. Cartwright school, and the girls team victorious over Simon Fraser 6-3. Our Cross-Country team had another strong showing at West Confederation park! We are looking forward to the tip-off of the basketball season in October! Please check the FEO School Calendar for practice schedules and games.

We applaud the many students who have been coming to Soccer try-outs, Basketball tryouts, practices and Cross Country team practices.  In order to participate on a school athletics team, important criteria must be met, including:

  • Demonstrating good character and citizenship in and out of class, and within the game environment
  • Consistently attending practices and games
  • Completing all needed parent consent forms

We are excited to invite students/parents to our junior and senior basketball teams home games this season at FEO. We kindly ask you review and respect these rules consistent with schools across our division to ensure safety of athletes and spectators:

  • Spectators are to cheer in a positive manner
  • No unparented FEO students are to attend games hosted at other schools. The same rule applies to student spectators from other schools attending games at FEO as well. Non student athletes who are dropped off will not be given access to FEO.
  • Parents are expected to assume active supervision of their children who are watching, and all spectators are expected to remain in the gymnasium unless using the washroom
  • Parents attending Away games with their own child are asked to care for no more students than you have seatbelts in your vehicle. This is to prevent parents from being “responsible” for students they did not bring with them to an Away game or that they do not know. We kindly ask you respect this rule at other schools.

We appreciate your support and lets show our Eagle Pride to our hardworking athletes on all our teams this season!
