Hello FEO Eagle Families!

We have started the last week of the 2023/2024 school year! As we begin to wrap up the year, it is a wonderful time to look back and reflect upon all the wonderful learning experiences and memories. From sailing trips to band camps to basketball champions and drama productions, it has been one for the books! Personal Mobile Device Ban

On June 17, Alberta Education announced that as of September 2024, students from kindergarten to Grade 12 in all school districts in the province will no longer be permitted to use personal mobile devices during instructional time. In addition, access to social media sites will be restricted.

In the announcement, the Minister of Education said school boards will have the autonomy and flexibility to determine specific circumstances under which these devices can be used. This might include supporting students with special learning or medical needs and for other educational purposes.

The Calgary Board of Education supports the government’s intention of creating quality learning environments that support the health, wellbeing and academic achievement of students. We will be taking time to review today’s provincial policy announcement and what it will mean for CBE schools next year.

I acknowledge that there will be questions from families. Once the CBE has reviewed the upcoming Ministerial Order and guidance provided by Alberta Education, the CBE will release guidelines before the upcoming school year (2024-2025).

Thank you for a wonderful year at F.E. Osborne, we look forward to welcoming families and students back to school at the end of August.
